I have in my hand a liberty quarter with no date on it but it does have a small M on the left hand side. I am adding pictures of it so you can see it. Please I would like to know if this is real or a fake since there is no year on it at all just a M on it. Is there anyone with any information on it please post it. Thanks. The dates on these wore off quickly, so you basically have junk silver, probably worth around $3 to $4. The M is the initial of the designer. And welcome to the community. ratman4762 Pillar of the Community United States 2520 Posts	Posted 11/28/2009 6:55 pm What you have is a Standing Liberty quarter (minted 1916-1930) where the date has worn away due to circulation. Looks like I see stars beneath the eagle on the reverse. This means yours was not minted in 1916. (there was a design change in mid 1917 adding stars). The "m" is not a mintmark, but designers initials. I don't see any reason to suspect a fake. I feel this is one of America's most beautiful coin design. Report this Post to the Staff

This also works on Buffalo nickels, just got done with a roll of non dated buffalos and only one was good enough to get the date off of, 1914-s Report this Post to the Staff
