This particular coin went for $114 on ebay. Far more than I felt it was worth. Red Book in F-12 is $65, VF-20 is $160. Is this a VF coin?  |

The May '10 Greysheet lists it in VF at $95 and in XF at $225 so the price is market correct.
Interesting note: 1853-O without Arrows & Rays lists for $250,000 in VF and $400,000 in XF! (3 known)

Looks good to me!
The E in Liberty is a bit weak, but one can not focus on a single element. The overall detail level is solid VF, nice hair detail on the obverse and feather detail on the reverse, excellent color, no dings or other problems. Overall, a nice coin at a fair price.

yeah, I'd call it an easy VF with nice original surfaces, which is probably what drove the price up. I just picked up a VF+ 1858 O with a small hole for melt.

I'd call it a F-15 because the LIBERTY is not sharp. A little more strength on the E and I could push it to a 20 coin. So $114 is probably pretty accurate.

I originally thought what Conder101 said, the middle of Liberty was weak which brought it down to F, but I can see what everyone else is saying with the rest of the details. And for a scarcer date, I guess the price was good. I'm just a bit disappointed that I wasn't able to get it, the toning matches my '53o quarter perfectly. Thanks for the feedback!

Often these aren't graded purely for liberty from what I've seen, but a weak liberty can lower the grade.

As an FYI, here are photos of my 1877-CC half, graded VF-25 by PCGS. Clearly, you don't need a full LIBERTY to make a VF grade at PCGS. I expect the buyer is not disappointed with his purchase.   |

That's a beautiful coin. There is way too much talk about grading.
What about Eye Appeal. This coin has boatloads of it.
That's what counts for "primo" coins.
To borrow a line from a popular rock hit ---> "If you think I'm sexy and ....."
