I was digging a new drain line in my backyard about 2 1/2 feet down. I see something shiny fly by and look back at the pile. I find a 1944 Liberty Dime EF. Not such a special coin but I'd pay to have that much fun again.
The house was built in 1939 and we know that they came back and added a lot of dirt to the back. Lots of bottles and stuff at that same depth.
The grade blowed me away. To be buried that long. Sure glad I didn't hit it with the spade.

Sounds like you might need to get a metal detector! Great find!

Very nice!  I know the last time that I had to dig a trench in my yard I was not enjoying it. I am sure you felt the same until you found that dime.  |

wouldnt it be a merc dime tho? or is a liberty head dime the same thing as a Mercury dimeI always thought it was barbers, then mercs the roosies |

slash, a merc's proper name is "Winged Liberty". So that's what he meant.

Sorry for no pictures but my wife and I are buying a new camera that will do marco shots well. I have a cheapo metal detector (read: I don't have a metal detector :) I've thought about doing some digging but that odds are slim at best. If I found a nice bottle or two it might be worth though.
