What have I got here?
Ken Potter's Variety Vault shows a certified 1997D Brass Plated LMC (I'm just sayin').
Found in a roll from the grocery store. Very shiny. Odd color. Odd jagged chips on the edges. Thank you for looking!

That's a very interesting color. I don't think I've seen a LMC that color before.

I think that is PMD.

If that was mine, I would put it in a 2x2 and into the safe.
Thanks for sharing.
Rest in Peace

I agree, it looks cleaned/brushed and the hits on the rim appear to just be PMD. I don't think it's any sort of variety.

ALL: Thank you. As a matter of my personal education, two follow up questions:

(1) I think also that it has been cleaned, because of the way dark areas are near the relief... But please, what is it that one looks for in a cleaned coin (or about this coin specifically).

(2) I am not contending here... just curious, when one says this is "not a variety" is one saying that '1997D brass' is not, by definition, a variety?. Or because it has been cleaned "it is not a variety"? Or?

Thanking you in advance. I do not have thin skin about this coin. I just wish to learn.

Not a variety because the cleaning caused it to be that color. What to look for in a cleaned coin? The brassy, polished look is a dead give away from farther than arm's distance. Coins are not minted to look like that.
