Hi guys.Ive came across this crown and I'm not sure about value.Sorry but images are protected and I cant copy them.Well known dealer-so I'm positive about originality.Condition XF+/AU- ex-mount but hardly distracting.Nothing major.Price-affordable-about Ł500.Is it worth that much?Any thoughts?

An AU gothic crown should sell for about £1,400 + or - a bit I think. Anything less than that and I'd be wondering about it.

Unfortunately the detraction would be that its been mounted, top graded coins would sell for the 1400 mark, at 500 pounds it seems a decent price but also bear in mind that its priced at 500 because it was an ex mount, but I would want to see it in hand because of the old mounting first and how good or bad its been removed before parting with the cash

Usually I think that people are overly fussy about grade - but in this case that mount has really affected its "desirability". £500 is probably quite a good price for it - though personally I'd pass and wait for a better one - even though it would be more expensive.

I'd have to agree, its priced at 500 GBP to sell due to the problems it has. I'd also leave it and wait for a better example, it will cost more, but if you have the 500 for this then you could save and wait a little longer.

Collecting as also about having patience, you'd kick yourself if another came along 2 weeks after buying this

Love the coin, but I'd probably pass on this particular one also. I'd like to save up for a nice one of these, but it will take quite a while...

Hi, I bought a Gothic Crown from an UK seller in ebay in August of this year (2012), the price was GBP820.00.

At first I am very satisfied with this beautiful coin. But when I read the book "Coincraft's 1997 Standard Catalogue of English and UK Coins 1066 to Date" by Lobel, Davidson, Hailstone & Calligas, there is a collecting hint about this Gothic crown. It said: Many forgeries exist; a genuine 1847 lettered edge coin will usually 'look' old and have sharp edge lettering in the higher grades. The 'V' of 'Victoria' will align approximately with 'et' on the edge and with 'tur of 'tueatur' on the reverse.

I don't see my coin meet the criteria (the position of edge 'et') of a genuine coin according what the book talked. But, the coin is really very well struck, can it be a fake? I query.

So I post my coin here again and want to receive your feedback. Also, valdiman, can you show the edge pictures of your coin? Henry

The seller has been reported.Let us hope ebay and the police sort this fraud.
I would suggest you ask for a refund and maybe reduce his sentence. He has ripped £1000's from good HONEST collectors.

One UK ebay seller in particular has just been found out selling a large amount of Gothic Crown and also 1868 Gothic florins with die number 64

He's sold since August about 8-10 1864 Gothic Florins in the same grade AEF with the same OBV scratches, also he's sold about 12 Gothic Crowns this year so far, and for an 8000 mintage that's an awfuly lot of coins from the same seller to have

roydinsdale, beware, he's a serieal Chinese lover and not of the chicken curry variety
