1800 Penny Error - Noob Question - Coin Community Forum

inthecards New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 07/15/2012 12:33 am Have a more dense scan on the link below - free to zoom in if you save it. I am not a coin collector though I have a lot of them I've gathered over the years :) I thought this one I picked up today in a group was particularly interesting because at first glance it looks like an 1890 penny but it's really an 1800 with the 3rd place looking like a 9. Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 07/17/2012 11:39 am There were six different overdated obverses in 1800 and they were used to make eleven different varieties. One die was a 1798 overdated with 1800, the other five were 1800/179. Only three of the obverses showed the 9 very strongly inside the first 0, Breen obv's 3,4,and 5. This is obv 5 and the variety is S-196, about the most common of the 1800 overdates. Report this Post to the Staff
