1847 Liberty Seated Dollar - Replica Or Real?

If it's a fake, it looks better than average. I'm comparing the image to my 1844 ANACS-certified dollar (posted in the grading forum under "Cleaned Coins") and the design, rims, denticles, and lettering all look accurate. That rim bruise at 12:00 on the obverse might be innocent or it might be a defect from a casting process or even a jewelry mount. You really need to have the coin in-hand so you can closely inspect the edge, look for bubbles or voids (usually present in a cast fake), and check the weight. Even then, I'd never be sure until I got it into a slab. ANACS would be your best bet for authentication since they'll slab a genuine coin even if it has damage.
If the price is right and the seller gives you a 100% return privilege, it might be worth taking a chance. Even better, ask if they'll refund your money in the event that ANACS pronounces the coin a fake. If they won't go that far, then I think I'd pass.

I am not an expert, but it might be a fake. On the reverse, there is what looks like a casting line along the left side of the rim. There is also a really deep scratch just under the A in America that might be a spot where the metal didn't "fill in".

But seriously, don't take my word for it. I'm a real newbie!
