1943 Error Weighs More Than Normal - Coin Community Forum

Joe77 New Member United States 14 Posts	Posted 03/28/2015 11:40 am Hello everyone, I just found a 1943 penny coin roll searching and just weighed it weighs more than normal. I am not sure why. If anyone can help me out with this thanks. I am not sure if this is an error or not.it weighs 2.9 and it does stick to a magnet. Report this Post to the Staff

jimbucks Pillar of the Community United States 4692 Posts	Posted 03/28/2015 3:48 pm I'm going to speculate that when the metal oxidizes, then oxygen is deposited, hence lending to a higher weight, That's a simple calculation but I'm not motivated to do it. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 03/28/2015 9:20 pm Your coin was probably re-processed. A new coating of zinc/plating on the coin. When a plating happens the coins have more luster which indicates that this took place. A coating with zinc would leave a dull finish like we see on your coin. (Either ways ruins collectable value.)
