Hello everyone, I just found a 1943 penny coin roll searching and just weighed it weighs more than normal. I am not sure why. If anyone can help me out with this thanks. I am not sure if this is an error or not.it weighs 2.9 and it does stick to a magnet.

I think there's enough crud on it to make up the weight difference. It's only 7 or 8 percent.

Should weight 2.7grams. I think mint tolerance is +/- .13grams.

I'm going to speculate that when the metal oxidizes, then oxygen is deposited, hence lending to a higher weight, That's a simple calculation but I'm not motivated to do it. Plus there is extra "crud" on that coin.

Your coin was probably re-processed. A new coating of zinc/plating on the coin. When a plating happens the coins have more luster which indicates that this took place. A coating with zinc would leave a dull finish like we see on your coin. (Either ways ruins collectable value.)
