Quote: Yes, as in No Good. So the 3 indicators I pointed out we are just going to ignore. OK then.It must be NG Quote: Blakeley effect is evident on the reverse between America & Dollar on the rim. The device's are weekly struck in united.

The effect is not visible on the obverse. The rim does not taper. A rim upsetting machine could not raise the rim in that area.

Not all clips even show the blakeley effect.but this one does for some reason.I guess it's just a damaged coin. Quote: A rim upsetting machine could not raise the rim in that area. But the pressure from the strike could. I guess it's still just a damaged coin

I suspect it to be a slight MAD then.

As Ken correctly observed, it's no good. There's no metal flow in letters adjacent to the straight edge, there's no fadeout and taper of the design rim as it approaches the straight edge, and there's no weakness of the design rim opposite the straight edge (the Blakesley Effect).

I said it first.

Thanks all. I thought it was Damage but I came across it again and thought I would see what you said. As someone said it had a rough life. Thanks again

OK I'll accept the fact that it's just a damaged coin but why is the area between Dollar & America on the rim that is flattened not considered the blakesley effect.I'm just trying to learn so I don't make this mistake again

Jasper you have a legitimate question there and I honestly do not know for sure but I suspect(cause I do see an area of slight wear you refer to) it is just slight wear in that area-it's very close but its not exactly opposite of the damaged area, most clips I've seen with the blakesly effect had it exactly opposite the clip as that's where the die pressure is offset from the damaged planchet-but again I'm certainly no expert and it's only my opinion...

Thank you slamnbass for the reply.Yeah! your right, the area that is flattened is not directly across from the area in question. Learn as we go
