Hello, I have this coin that I have had for awhile now. It was a gift given to me by a family member from Littleton Coin. I have been trying find information about it online with no luck. It is a 1937 Gold Plated Buffalo nickel with the D Mint mark on it. I am wondering if it is fake or if it is real, and just some information on it as I can not seem to find anything online. Littleton still sells these, not sure of dates.

It is a neal nickel that someone gold plated after it left the mint. It is probably worth a quarter or less. And it is NOT a D mint coin.

Welcome to the CCF! Your plated nickel has been turned into a novelty item. Oftentimes, plated pieces like yours were used or intended to be used as jewelry pieces ... to be mounted in a ring, a bracelet or whatever. While they generally have little value, they do make for conversation.

No offense intended. It is still an artificial enhancement of a US coin to an unnatural state with the aim of luring in a sucker buyer for something of absolutely no numismatic value. This is a big part of Littleton's business. It is junk.  |

I agree with Mr. Coinfrog, it's junk. The fact that it was handed down by a family member doesn't make it any less junky.
