Seems like the government is trying really hard to have the Presidential dollars circulate.

In my opinion it's not going to happen until they get rid of the dollar note. I know that it is more cost efficient to mint the coin dollar, but seems the general public has an easier time folding a light dollar note with the rest of their bills. You would think the US Mint realizes this as well, so I'm a little confused why they are going to such lengths to circulate the coin. Any ideas?

It's really simple! Since the dollar is being devaluated so much the dollar coin is the new Quarter!!

Rest in Peace

I'm guessing the mint is counting on seignorage on these. If 250 leave the mint, how many become saved. If you buy 250 and save 20, trade 20, then dump the rest, at least 20 more will be picked up by others. I don't have any yet, but if I saw one, I'd save it for sure (of course I would, I'm the collector). I suspect a lot of people would save one if they see one. I think the mint is trying to create a collecting frenzy like the State Quarters, and that isn't possible if every 10 year old does not have access or has never seen one. Seignorage on dollars definitely beats that on quarters!

Well put Jays-Dad. That was my thinking as well. More income for the U.S. Mint in collecting frenzies. I think there could be a silver lining in there for the youngster, but just clad for the collector.
