I have this dime that I can across. I took it to my local coin dealer. He has been in business for 25 years, so I respect his knowledge. He said it is authentic and struck in the mint this way.

The dime is a little in size than a regular dime. He said because it was struck in a penny cast ( not sure if that is the right word ).
The lettering is backwards and some weird looking things on it. He said the penny struck was 1974. I have some photos of it. Tell me what you think and if you know anyone that would like to buy it.

Sorry, but I believe the dealer is incorrect. This has "vise-job" written all over it. It was smashed against another coin that left its inverted impression in it. That's why the reverse is flattened. It's just damage.

@Crazyb0

I think the oak scrap was omitted in this case, seeing the concrete-like impression on the reverse.

Interesting discussion. This is the first I've heard of this being done.

It's Post Mint Damage. Most likely a vise job.
