I Need Help With 1969-S Lincoln Cent

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 10/26/2018 1:41 pm The 1968-1972 cents had a lot of Machine Doubling on them. Most people see the MD and think it is a doubled die. But the MD is caused by the machine on a normal die coin. A doubled die (hub doubled) had the doubling on the die and not caused by the machine. But on the 1969-s Cents even the doubled dies had Machine Doubling on them. So the true variety is from the hub doubling, not caused by a machine. (this applies for all years/mints/denominations) A doubled die has the doubling on the die, not caused by a machine. MD is also seen on the edges of the devices, hub doubling is seen as a spread on the tops of the devices or as notching or enlarging the devices. This is the real deal: Note the motto area on these. You can spot the doubled die strongest there even on small images. Most look on the date area, so here are a few machine doubled, doubled dies: Note the yellow areas? They show the flattened and reduced MD. As mentioned this can happen on normal doubled dies as well. Report this Post to the Staff
