How about a $5 coin about the size of a halve with some silver composition. Lady Liberty on the obverse and the US seal on the back, intended for circulation? Anyone?

Sounds like it could be from Liberia. A date would be helpful.

There's pattern coinage from the 1800's in that denomination.. definitely need a date. Some Philipines coinage also have this design (not sure if they have a $5, I'd have to look it up).

Although I like the idea, it will never work unless they get rid of the five dollar FRN as well. The failure of the dollar coin to circulate is tied to the fact the the one dollar FRN is still being printed.

yeah of course it would have to be a 40%er or less, but I guess I don't ever see the us mint circulating any precious metals again. But then again yrs from now the copper (esp pre82 cents) and in clad coins may be considered a precious metal.

I agree that it wouldn't circulate. Folks look at me funny already when I spend Presidential dollars.
