Need Help Identifying If This Is A US Error Coin Or Not

Kingfloyd5150 New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 12/25/2019 1:36 pm Hey y'all, I'm fairly new to the coin collecting community, and need help identifying if this coin is an error coin or misprint, what it appears to be is a us dime printed on a us penny planchet, how I came to this conclusion is it is the same thickness as a penny and lacks the ridges on the outer edge, any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated, many thanks... * Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. * Report this Post to the Staff

Spence Moderator United States 34471 Posts	Posted 12/25/2019 1:43 pm @kf, first welcome to CCF. Second, it looks like other than circulation wear, there are two issues with this 1996-D dime. First the edge reeding has been removed and second, there is a rim bruise. I believe that both are damage rather than mint errors. it doesn't look like this coin was struck on a cent planchet, but you can weigh this coin to confirm. JimmyD Bedrock of the Community Canada 21710 Posts	Posted 12/25/2019 2:01 pm To the CCF It would be pretty hard to mint a dime on a Cent planchet as a cent is larger and would not fit in a dime collar. Also if it was, wouldn't it be copper instead of silver? Report this Post to the Staff
