I'm still new to all of this and today I was given this 1921 looks to be an "S" minted old giant dollar coin lol, (I'm guessing it a Morgan dollar? IDK anything about this... is there anything special to these? I picked it up at face value along with an Eisenhower 1972 silver dollar as well I believe it was. If nothing else these are both made of silver correct?   Edited by Mzeek17

Not a 1922 Morgan, it is a 1921, also only the 1922S Eisenhower dollarshad any silver in them, the others were Nickel and Copper. Edited by JimmyD

This is a Morgan dollar of 1921 date, San Francisco mintmark. The Morgan dollar began being minted in 1878 and was continually minted to 1904, then skip a few years to 1921 when a glut of these were minted. Indeed, these are 90% silver.  The Peace dollar began in the last two weeks of December 1921 and went to 1928, then skip a few years and a few more in 1934 and 1935, and those are also 90% silver. To me, all silver dollars are special, no matter how common they are  . The estimated grade I give your 1921-S is about XF-40 and can be valued at a cool 25 dollars average. PS, the Eisenhower dollar debuted in 1971, and the proofs have the S mintmark. Edited by mrwhatisit

The way the rim is all buckled and dinted, makes me think it might have been mounted in jewellery and then removed. An "ex-mount" coin is considered damaged and only worth bullion value, as collectors won't want it.
"Only worth bullion value" is $17 at current prices, which is still a lot better than $1.

something looks kinda off to me, perhaps thats due to the condition, The dents are kinda odd perhaps mounted like sap said. May I ask how much it weighs?
I've been collecting for a couple years... Favorite Coin's are Standing Liberty quarters, Working on my type set | Coffee, Corvettes, Coins & the CCF what could be better? |
