So I may have just dropped my 2023 American Liberty Silver Medal and broke the case. Does anyone know what the correct size capsule is for it?

Well according to the Mint site - the diameter of this coin is :1.598 inches (40.60 mm)
did the coin get damaged?

Na coin is fine. It is just the edge of the case that cracked and came off. I saw the mint size on it but don't know is the case is 41mm or if it fits a coin that is 41mm.

A Standard Silver Dollar (1878 onwards) is 38 mm. An ASE is just fractionally larger than that. So 41 sounds right to me for the coin diameter.

I would check out the Lighthouse Ultra Perfect Fit Capsules for ASEs (Liberty medals use the same planchet):

I just got the case and tried it out. Realized the coin looks fine but isn't uniform in thickness. The side that is a little bit taller prevents the case from closing. Probably why the first case cracked so easily as well. Otherwise the lighthouse case would have fit perfectly.

Yup, uneven edge has been a problem with some of the silver Liberty medals, called finning. My 2022 has finning, the case on mine won't fully close. I thought of putting a piece of clear tape on the case but decided I didn't want the residue on it. Best advise is to only hold the medal when it's on a table so it don't fall far if you drop it :).

There's a few YouTube videos about finning on these.

Yeah I'm going to put tape on the new case to keep it closed. The original case stays together better than the lighthouse one when it isn't all the way closed. Unfortunately when I opened the mint case after it cracked it completely destroyed it. My only option is the after market case. Tape will be the solution and I'll just be careful with it.

The video is exactly what it looks like.

Mike,

In my opinion, Placing ANY foreign Matter Even Close to ANY Numismatic Coins, Would Not be Advisible.

I too received The 2021 AND 2022 Liberty Medals, They All have The Finning , The 2023's, Not as Strong Finning. ( in my examples ).

Some Very Strong and the Sweet Medals inside are Cramped and All OGP. I am Thrilled to Have the Anomaly, Store them in Their Own Original, Will Not close fully capsules...... Best Wishes, Mike
