I was on an ebay buying frenzy in 2004 and picked up a 1946 $1 in an old ICCS MS60 flip for $US80 (roughly $CAD110 today). I finally submitted a couple of these purchases along with my grandfather's collection to ANACS, and the 1946 got MS62. I figured it was undergraded all along. By coinsandcanada guide that's now $CAD234 ($US170) and J&M says $CAD250 ($US181). So that alone made it a pretty good score, but after examining it closely (years later) it's also SWL and has a die clash on both sides. SWL c&c says $CAD372 ($US270), an even better score. But it's not the money so much that made it a good score, it's just a very interesting coin with so many things going on.
I also picked up a raw 1947ML 50c S7 for about $US160 ($CAD220) that ultimately got ANACS MS63.
Overall though I'd say I broke even on the buying frenzy. I was pretty dumb back then and got hosed with quite a few raw cleaned coins and sellers saying "BU" when it's really not.
