coppercoins Pillar of the Community United States 7629 Posts	Posted 08/14/2009 03:34 am Well, that's exactly the point. The mintmark is punched into each die individually after the die is created. Any doubling on the rest of the design wouldn't be on the mintmark, and conversely any doubling on the mintmark wouldn't be on the rest of the design. The only way the same doubling can show on both the mintmark and the rest of the design is if the doubling happened after the mintmark was applied to the die...during the coining (or striking) process. And that doubling is called Machine Doubling - basically a loose die bounced on the coin after the strike. This is very, very common and has no value. Report this Post to the Staff
