A little eye candy on a slow day. I am slowly getting around to photographing my coins with a decent camera. I have owned this one for nearly a decade but had never imaged it before. Except for the background, these photos are just as they came out of the camera, without adjustments. The minor haze in the center of the reverse is on the plastic holder. 1882-H, obverse 2, PCGS MS-65 Red, pop 5/0.

At the preview of this sale, although large cents are not my cup of tea you just have admire how nice and bright red most of these coins are and the story behind them, I just remember you need sunglasses for viewing

Whoa! What a gorgeous specimen!
Gotta have shades to cut down on the glare!
Congratulations, bosox!

Actually, this was previously in an ICCS MS-66 Red holder. It was lot #550 in the Landon sale (one of three in ICCS 66 Red, with one in ICCS 67 Red). Somebody (I do not know who) bought it for $5,175 CAD ($4,140 USD at the time). I was there but did not bid on it. It was very nice, but I was not sure PCGS would cross it at 66.
Apparently, the Landon buyer gambled by cutting it out and sending it to PCGS. PCGS put it in a 65 Red holder. The owner then put the resulting PCGS 65 in a Heritage auction. The Heritage photo was not the best, but I matched it to the Landon catalogue and remembered which coin it was. I managed to buy it at the bargain basement price of $1,645 USD.
Given time and the vagaries of grading standards, I think there is a reasonable chance it eventually goes into a PCGS holder at 65+, or less likely as a 66.
In any case, it is a beautiful coin.

The Landon 1882-H cent in ICCS 67 and the three in ICCS 66 were all very nice coins.
Lot 547, the 67, sold in the Landon sale for $6,612.50 CAD. It was the nicest of the 1882s IMO by a hair. I do not know who bought it or who has it, but I congratulate them on a very nice coin.
Lot 548, a 66, sold for $6,900 CAD. It ended up being in the Cook collection in a PCGS 65 Red holder. I bought it there for 50 cents on the dollar. I bought it as a duplicate because I could not (and still cannot) decide if it is better than the one at the top of this thread. They are pretty equal in quality. Eventually, I guess I will sell one of them.
Lot 549, a 66, had a bit of chatter and was the inferior coin of the three 66s in the Landon sale. It sold for $2,530 CAD. I do not know who bought it.
Lot 550, the final Landon 66, is the coin at the top of this thread.
The rest of the 1882-H Landon cents sold in group lots. Chuck Moore generally put a nice 64 or 65 in a lot with one or more marginal ones so that they all sold.

One more. By my count, the Landon sale had 54 mint state cents dated 1887. Fully 20 of them were graded by ICCS as MS-66 Red. One, lot #578 shown below, was graded ICCS MS-67 Red. PCGS crossed it at MS-66+ Red. IMO, it was the finest Victorian cent in the sale and one of the very finest surviving today. I have posted the coin in CCF before, but not these pictures. A common date, but it is simply mesmerizing in hand.
