Including a pic of the coin so that folks can still learn from this thread after the auction link no longer works:

All of this seller's items have that suspicious rainbow "toning".

Yes, human-induced toning it appears.

I've posted about this seller. It makes me kind of ill to look at all those weird colors.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Unethical, yes. Criminal? No. This topic was moved to a more appropriate forum.

I think that kind of false toning is quite ugly myself.. but yes, this one is NOT a naturally toned coin.

I think you can achieve this affect by submitting the coin to an open flame. True?

Quote: I think you can achieve this affect by submitting the coin to an open flame. True? Yes, I made a post on it years ago. It's a fun experiment, you can use an oven or range-top too. However, this looks to be more like the classic baked potato or similar method. It's PMD and easy to spot! This is not a market acceptable toning.

Definitely artificial toning. Definitely avoid any of these that do this at all costs. A scam.
Errers and Varietys.
