I've had this beautiful semi PL 1879-S rev '78 VAM 25 for many years. I'm torn about whether I should hold on to it or put it up for sale. I sent it in to Anacs around 20 years ago so it's in an old soapbox slab. It's graded MS62 and the Vamworld value chart puts it at $3K. I'm also thinking about resubmitting to NGC or PCGS for a star or + grade due to the semi PL fields. It really is a PQ example for it's grade. I guess I'm looking for some ideas and guidance.

Send it as is to CAC for a green bean. If CAC thinks it's a 62, then you get a green bean. If they think its graded low, you will get a gold bean. People go crazy for gold beans and pay stupid prices for them. Either way you win. NCG and PCGS is a crapshoot anymore.

I emailed CAC and yes they confirmed that they only sticker NGC and PCGS slabs.

Old Anacs soap box holders have a pretty substantial following. Keeping it in the soap bar/box holder will also get you a premium.
I have 4 Anacs soap box that I think would grade higher if I broke it out but I like them in the holder.

i can appreciate the old holder from ANAC's... But instead of going for a green/gold bean from CAC...which they don't consider for ANAC... PCGS offers a crossover service...and it includes ANAC holdered coins... just something to think about...and you can pick the grade to weather you want to accept/they give you...? I've never done this...just another option... quote from PCGS <<<SUBMIT Your pre-graded and sealed coins from a third party service such as NGC, ANACS, ICG or other for PCGS Crossover>>> This is just me... it seems like PCSG graded coins (for whatever reason) brings about 15% more at auction.... Nice predicament to be in for you... Super coin! smat

I wasn't aware of that CAC rule, thanks for bringing that up. It's kind of silly by the way. But it's their rules. The crossover from PCGS might be a route to look into. Let us know what you finally end up doing.

I'll probably just keep it in the old Anacs slab for now.

So I've been corrected by the experts at Vamworld. It turns out to be a VAM 52 not a 25 as designated on the Anacs label. #128546; I guessed I'll be holding on to it as now it's only worth Greysheet and not $3k

Cac does not sticker Anacs.

Vamworld Home page look for the SSDC Registry Login in the upper left of the page. Set up a username and password then you can log in and have access to the VAM Value Guide.
