Is there "ever" a reason to clean one ? Say for your own personal benefit os is it best to always just leave them alone ?

I have some 1921's that have acquired some grub and grime I'd like to get rid of but also I want to keep the pleasing age toning. I suppose I have nothing to lose since they are little more then spot/melt value coins but they are my first Morgans and I want to keep them as mementos.

I bought some Conserve solvent cause Ive heard good things about it but is there a better way to go about the cleaning more gently ?

Thank you for any replys.

100% pure acetone is a safe route to go.

If you're going to "clean" your coins, practice on a cull first. At least that will give you an idea of what to expect, what not to do in the future, etc.

Thanks for the replys. I looked them over, well most of them, and they look either already cleaned or not in need of it. I don't want to burn out natural toning just to practice cleaning on coins that really don't need it.

But I'll probably pick one out anyway and practice on it eventually. I have 12 right now and they are all basically spot weight culls, tho I have a few of interest. heck they are all of interest but I have a few Denver mint ones and I was at least able to practice with my Tomlov some.

I've dipped MS Morgans with really ugly toning. Best case you get a "blast white" coin that grades clean and sells for a premium. Worst case you get a mottled coin that may or may not straight grade.

Thanks for the advice Fent. I'm dancing around this carefully learning as much as I can from the more experienced guys. I know it sounds silly but all my coins mean something to me, even my 1921 Morgans which are nothing special. I still enjoy looking at them.
