According to Reuters: Quote: PHILADELPHIA, Nov 12 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Treasurer Brandon Beach will visit the Philadelphia Mint on Wednesday to oversee production of the final circulating one-cent coin or penny, each of which costs nearly 4 cents to produce, Treasury said. https://www.reuters.com/business/re...-2025-11-12/

Anyone else think cents from this "final batch" will find their way into special holders, rolls, tubes, plaques, and other tchotchkes in the weeks and months to come. . ? I can see the ads in the back of the Sunday newspaper supplements now: " Own a piece of history ! "

Quote: noting that it now costs 3.69 cents to make each penny, up from 1.42 cents a decade ago. They conveniently leave off all the transportation and labor hours cost. Each cent costs the taxpayer MUCH more than 3.69 cents. Millions in diesel fuel is wasted shuttling around worthless slugs. Thousands of labor hours are also wasted each year handling and processing cents.

How long before all the zincolns rot away? Between rotting and hoarding we may see some pennies disappearing sooner than later.

How long before the Mint engages with Stacks Bowers (or GC) to auction off some quantity of these final batch cents ? I can picture somebody paying 7 figures or more for one of the "Omega" privy marks, especially if they throw in the cancelled dies. . .
I won't be stunned if Treasury Secretary Bessent or Treasurer Brandon Beach present POTUS with a valuable keepsake from the proceedings. . .

Quote: The Philadelphia Mint produced 232 of Omega-stamped coins for the auction, one for each year the penny was produced, plus three for display at Treasury and other institutions, a source familiar with the matter said. It also produced 235 gold pennies, the source said.

Once the coins are monetized at the mint, the shipping to the Fed's Contracted Coin Terminals, and all shipping and handling in circulation, are funded by the fees the Fed and the Banks pay the CCTs.
