I visited my local coin dealer yesterday and mentioned that I'd found two 2025 pennies in circulation recently. He said, "You know, they stopped making 'em!" I asked him to clarify, and he said that the mints had already stopped producing 2025 Lincoln cents. He said that the estimated mintage was 100,000 coins (I'm assuming he was referring to the Philly mint only). He then said that that's it for the U. S. cent. After this year, no more will ever be made.
Can anyone provide facts to back up his statements? (Note I'm asking for facts, not speculation or hearsay.)

The US mint web site (usmint.gov) reports 1,300,400,000 2025 Lincoln cents have been produced in 2025:
645,200,000 Denver
655,200,000 Philidelphia

I am still wondering if they are going to make them in mint sets or available to purchase each year for collector's like us, much like other coins that they stopped producing for circulation like Sacagawea dollars, Kennedy halves, etc. I also find it odd that when I do find 2025 cents, they are always Denver mint marks. I haven't come across any Philly ones so far. I actually found like four or five of these recently. Edited by Humanist1287

I cannot remember where I read it but heard they had a bunch of planchets already when deciding to quite making the cent. It was said that they would mint what they had left of planchets and could easily go into 2026. If wish I could find the source....

It was widely reported in late May, -makecents-, I think this is what you're refering to.
"The Treasury Department has announced that it will stop manufacturing pennies, placing its last order for penny blanks in May. Those blanks, which are manufactured into pennies, will run out in early 2026, at which point penny production will cease."

To break down your dealer's arguments: Quote:

But they still have a large number of blanks already on order or in the process of being made and shipped, so these need to be used up since the Mint is already contractually obligated to buy and use them. I don't think we know the Mint's ongoing plans regarding NCLT cent production but, as noted above, the production of circulation cents will cease once the supply of already-ordered blanks runs out. If they do choose to continue to make cents after the blank supply runs out, they will be NCLT only (and presumably reverting to the old bronze alloy, since they will no longer have any zinc blanks on hand and will have to make new blanks specially for those NCLT coins). I would think we will see a 1776-2026 cent next year. Good way to finally end the production of the coin.

Fun fact. The cent as a denomination is the longest continually struck U.S. coin, the exception being in 1815. As for the small cent, every year even during economic/political/natural hardships which affected all other denominations. Quite impressive. Personally I'm going to miss it if for no other reason.
