Hello, CCF, hope you're all doing well. This is a common O-116, looks to be very late die state and harshly cleaned at some point.

My question is what is going on with the obverse left edge? Seems to be either a planchet issue or die issue, but it doesn't look like any Cud I've ever seen.

Also, thoughts on grade, details aside.

Leaning towards a planchet defect, perhaps a delamination before the strike?

The strike may have caused the pieces to flake off.

VF30 (details) is about right

best guess. planchet flaw. they do look like they flaked off when the coin was struck.

Interesting, I didn't think about a layer of metal flaking off following the strike. Hence still some star details despite the missing top layer. Thanks, all, for the info and feedback on the grade.
