Just passed through 170,000 nickels searched ..... that's 4250 rolls .... $8500 face value .... and lots of fun!
I know in advance that this post will be of interest to only a select few of you ..... and that's OK ..... to those fellow USA nickel searchers ..... this is my calibration check for you.
Keep in mind that I consider a 'find' to be any USA nickel 1959 or prior ....... so ..... to the numbers ...

Buffalo Nickel Obsolescence:
First time for this data!
At 4250 rolls I figure it is time to start reporting on this statistic as well ..... recall how my definition of obsolescence works ..... sooo ...
Overall
Buffalo nickel Obsolescence is 99.40%
This means ..... 9,940 of every 10,000
Buffalo nickels have disappeared from circulation today.
Some Prediction Fun with the Numbers:
My obsolescence rates for War Silver and
Buffalo nickels can give reasonably accurate estimates of the total number of these coins still circulating today .....
Keep these totals in mind the next time you get discouraged in your roll searches.

Estimated number of War Silver in Circulation Today: 16.603,300
Estimated number of Buffalo in Circulation Today: 7,235,900
Updated Jefferson Top-10Forget the total mintage numbers ..... they do not account for circulation obsolescence!
With the
admitted problem of hoarding of the 1950-D which I have not solved ..... here are the Top-10 Most Difficult

Status of My Quest:
Goal: Complete my humble Whitman 9009 ... Jefferson circulation strikes 1938 thru 1961 .... all from local bank rolls.
Status: Still need two coins ..... 1938-S and 1943-D.
You should recognize them on the above Top-10 list.
Hope somebody out there enjoys this.
