Hi, I have a jumbled collection of world coins and wonder if anyone could tell me how I can find out some values? I have tried searching the Internet and have found the descriptions and pictures of many coins I own but no idea of how much they could be worth. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Thanks :)

Ahh John, I have been trying this one for hours but keep getting messages of an internal server error. Not sure if it's the site or my sickly computer. As always I will continue trying. Thanks for the suggestion

WCG is a good site, but finding coin values takes a lot of work. First you have to find your coin, look up the KM number, then click on the "Coin values" link and look up the KM number. It only lists "common date" pricing, so it won't tell you if you've got a valuable date or noteworthy variety. And only the more recent and commoner coins are listed.

NumisMaster is the website run by the people that print the Krause world coin catalogues. Click on "Find my Coin" to access the database, but you have to register and pay a subscription to see catalogue values, and the site still doesn't work very well for non-Internet-Explorer users.

NGC have gained permission to access and publish NumisMaster's data. Their World Coin Price Guide is currently a free-to-access service, but I can't see that situation continuing forever.

All these websites use basically the same price list, the one published in the Krause catalogues. For "real world" pricing, ebay completed listings search is usually a pretty good guide for whether or not the pricing for a particular country or series is reliable.

I recently purchased a standard catalog of world coins
I found it really cheap at a discount store but it has all the coins from 1901-2000 or something like that
really informative for identifying but not really for finding out values. I can figure out if the coin is worth something (key, semi key, silver) but I need to look up more information on the internet anyways for grades and their values.
the site others have mentioned is one that I look to for the most part. I also look at ebay for recently bidded on items.

Hmm, I'm not having much luck at all getting any values for my coins. And now I can't even download my pics via the image optimiser, seems I need a new computer

I bought one of the Krause price guides (the 1900-2000 one) because my father gave me pounds (literally) of foreign coins he picked up over his years of world travel. If you have a lot of coins to go through having a book in hand is often easier than using a website. However, I use that book the same way I do the Red Book, as a quick way to tell what coins are higher than average value. I look at the prices to see if a particular coin is more valuable than the others in the same series. While the exact price may be off, you can be confident that if they say most coins in the series are worth $10 but your year is $100 that you probably have something of value. Then you go to places like ebay or a good current guide to see what they really sell for.
