How many out there are collectors of the silver proof Kennedy's minted between 1992 and the present? Are you collecting the whole set or just certain dates? I have recently started buying them myself, particularly the lower mintage dates, and I find that if you are patient you can sometimes get them for just a few dollars over melt. Even slabbed ones can be purchased for a decent price above melt occasionally. Will be interested to hear from anyone who collects these.

I have all the silver proof Kennedy halves from my full collection of silver proof sets purchased from the mint. Except for the most recent sets they were purchased for below spot. The key to the set is the 1998 s matte proof sold only with a Robert Kennedy unc. dollar from the mint.

The 1998-s matte proof Kennedy is a nice one to own, nice and pricey too. I believe the 2008-s silver proof is the second lowest mintage, I have accumulated quite a few slabbed examples of that one, with hopes that one day it will go up in value.

Second lowest? What other one is lower?

If I am correct, the 1998 matte proof is the lowest mintage with 60 some thousand. If your talking regular Kennedy silver proofs, the 2008 is the lowest mintage from the numbers I have seen published. The 1995-s silver proof Kennedy has a mintage of around 679,000, so that's a low one too.

I was referring to the 1998 Matte and you have confirmed the mintages I have known. I like my Kennedy Proof silver set but they remain in the individual proof sets and it is hard to view them as a whole.

I bought all of the silver Kennedy proofs individually, including the 98S matte. The matte looks out of place with the DCAM proofs. Too bad it was not a reverse proof. Makes for a nice 20-coin and growing subset, and all of the coins except the matte can be obtained for a slight premium above melt. The 2010S should rival the 2008S silver proof for lowest regular issue silver proof mintage by the end of the year.

That's interesting to know concerning the 2010 silver proofs. Just curious where you heard about the 2010's being low? The final 2009 silver proof mintages have not been released yet as far as I know, but I think they may be on the low side also when they come out.

I use the US Mint sales figures from the coinnews.net website. It comes out every two weeks or so, a running tally of the current collector products. Here's a link to the October 6th report: http://www.coinnews.net/2011/10/06/...er-products/The 2010 silver set stands at 573K, with 2 1/2 months left of sales, in order to overtake the 2008, the Mint will have to sell appromately 200,000 sets, which considering the $65 price, is really highly unlikely. The silver sets have gotten more and more expensive since '08, which accounts for the historic low mintages. The 2011 set stands at 461K, but should have at least another 8-9 months of sales before it is withdrawn.

I have found half a set in circulation a few years ago (92-98 minus 97). I plan on starting this Kennedy set eventually. I am just looking for NICE BU coins and proof now.
