It was a good day starting at wake-up, seeing how I didn't have to work today. I decided today would be a good day as any to start roll searching. I had to go to the bank to deposit a check, so I went to the branch nearest my house. I deposited the check and asked if they had any customer rolls of dimes; the lead teller said she had quite a lot and asked how many I'd like. My first response was "all of them" and she politely informed me that she had well over $800; I decided on $150. I had fun looking through the rolls, but didn't get anything of interest except for a recent Canadian dime. I'm a persistent person though, so I decided to try again at the branch near my wife's work (we had to go there anyways). The teller here was much less helpful, though polite; she pretty much said she had no rolls in her drawer and it was clear that was the end of the conversation. On the way home from my wife's work I had her detour by the branch near my work. My take:
-out of 18 loose 50c pieces, 3 were 40% -the 3rd quarter in the first roll was a 1958 -5 25c bicentennial and 1 50c bicentennial -a very nicely toned Connecticut 25c... I tried to take pictures but I will have to wait until tomorrow when it's sunny out.
With silver at $31.99 earlier today, that put the take at $19.95 in silver. My only problem is my credit union will not order boxes of coins for me, I've talked to the teller managers of several branches about it. Will I need to use a commercial bank? Or does anyone know who empties the Coinstar machines? I'd like to do at least a few boxes a week, I have a way to get rid of the coins I don't want to keep, the issue is getting coins in that quantity. Edited by FIST of coins 10/10/2011 5:21 pm

Nice start for sure - I started roll-searching cents not long ago and I must confess myself to be thoroughly addicted

The quarter looks artificially toned to me. Probably exposed to extreme heat or something like that.

Would someone artificially tone it just to put it back in circulation? Is there a way for me to tell if it's artificial?

People experiment with coins sometimes and then spend them. Maybe someone was just messing with the coin for fun and later spent it. If you can get better pictures maybe some of the guys who are good with toning can help you. But looking at all of the colors on that coin, and for how new of a coin it is, and that it was found in circulation makes me pretty positive it is artificial toning.

Good finds.
And the best part was all it cost you was gas money.

Thanks everyone. The nice thing is it didn't cost any extra gas money, it was all errands that had to be run anyways. I can walk to the commercial bank where I'm going to start getting coins in bulk from, and my other bank with the coin machine is less than 1/2 mile from my work. I didn't think the coin would go for that, I just don't know what sort of thing sells on ebay and what doesn't. I'll get some better pics tomorrow of the coin to show the toning. I'm pretty curious if it's artificial or not.

Hopefully I'm not sounding crass, but the easiest way to check for a what coin will go for is to go and check out the completed auction on ebay. I was selling some old software that I figured was cheap and nobody wanted. I figured $5 buy it now with free shipping. Once I searched I saw that the discs were selling for $40 plus shipping. A little research will go a long way. Enjoy the searching...it is addicting and stay off of ebay for buying until you get some more knowledge under your belt.

yeah that's what a lot of us on here do to find a coins price. We can use numismedia prices or grey sheet prices, but usually ebay completed listings will be the most accurate. Well, most of the time.
