I just won this coin last night and the grade difference between the Reverse and Obverse is huge. The reverse looks like an easy MS64 but the obverse is full of bag marks. It's graded PCGS MS61 but I'm wondering if this coin is worth more than a "regular" MS61 because of the nice and clean surface on the reverse? Thanks for your feedback.

It is very common to find morgans where the reverse grades higher than the obverse. It's the obverse that carrys the grade. Even with the nice reverse, this coin probably would not be worth a lot more than another MS-61 because many morgans are easy to find in higher grades. That may change if the coin is a valuable VAM. Nice coin! I like the toning on the reverse!

Just display it reverse side up in your Dansco :). But the money side is deffinately the obverse. So it most likely wouldn't carry any premium.

Yes, I saw those die cracks too (between the "S" in "States" and the right feather tip of the eagle and another, smaller one between the rim next to the "E" in "United" and the left feather tip of the eagle). Can't wait to see it in person and take some closeup pictures. I might also post it in the Morgen VAM section. Maybe someone knows if this is a known variety or something new...

Die cracks along the reverse legend are pretty common on Morgans. This one is more obvious than many but I don't think that enhances the value. The crescent toning is nice and someone might be willing to pay a bit more based on that.

The 1887 is a common date, readily available in MS-63 for maybe $50 (depending on current silver spot price). If you could get $50 for this one I would consider it a generous offer.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I didn't get a great deal then, paying just over $50, once you factor in the buyer's fee and shipping and I don't even know yet if I need to pay any customs duties. I'm probably just going to keep it for my type set then since I really like the reverse of the coin.

This is one if you feel like cracking out of the slab you shouldn't feel bad about it. I still think it's a very attractive looking coin.

Thanks, I think it's a pretty attractive coin too, the reverse at least. I don't think I'm going to be cracking it out though just in case I do end up selling it. Can't wait for it (and some other coins) to get here..
Rest in Peace

The MS-61 is a bit harsh but I agree with the rest.
