72DD, 95DD, 69S DD, 83 doubled reverse, 84 doubled ear...those are the main ones I guess.

well, there's always the 55 DD...but I bet the last of those disappeared in the 70's.

1964 extra bud/stem. Will look similar to this but the extra bud can be larger and in a slightly different locations. You may also find the extra buds on other years as well. I believe the I have found them up to 1972.

1965 Pointed 5. Almost all 1965 cents have a slight angle to the 5. You want to look for ones with greater then 35%...closer to 45% taper.

I have also found a 1968 extra twig/stem:

Various years from the 50's & 60's have Hanging, double hanging and triple hanging numbers:

Triple hanging number would have a third hanger. Sorry...I do not know of a pic of one as a reference.

1953, 1954 and 1955 all have No Shoulder Fold (NSF) and Shoulder Fold (SF) variations to look for. Check out the link for a good guide to the different coins and their values/rarities.

Look at the "I" in "DEI" on the Obverse of the coin and compare the flare of the tips of the "I" to this diagram to help determine.
Error-Pennies?

1948 has "A" to denticle, "A" Between Denticle and "A" to Small Denticle. For the Small denticle you will have to compare the Obverse denticles to other 1948 coins and you will notice a difference in the size when you find them.

A Between Denticle

The above pics can also be used for the 1949 "A" to Denticle and "A" between Denticle coins.

That should get you started with some of the more popular cents to look for. Good luck and have fun.

Nice photos! The 1985 makes it look like the numbers are inset. Is this an optical illusion?

I agree that the 85 looks inset . whats that about?
My favorite is the 62harp and guitar. I have one harp (purchased) but have never found one in circ and I have gone through at least 100 boxes in the last year, I guess you could say they are quite rare. PS anybody wonna buy some copper LOL

Yes. When you shine the light source from the south (bottom) you can get an apparent reversal of relief. You can even generate the same effect even with DEM (digital elevation model) imagery...

Thank you for the explanation SPP-Ottawa. The pictures from the 85 and after are borrowed from the coinsandcanada website. The first 5 pictures are from coins I have found and had on hand. I have not found a Harp or Guitar yet from circulation. I'm not much for buying coins as it is all about the hunt for me. I would like to get my hands on some proof sets (both US and Canadian) though. I know the proofs are not investment sets but I love the way they look.
