We are going to need photos or a better description to figure out what you have.

Pictures will help determine what you have.

It may be a novelty coin.

Welcome!

What is the composition of the coin? Was it struck on a copper cent planchet, or a silver dime planchet. If the cent side is copper, and the dime side is silver, then it is a novelty trick coin, made by hollowing out one of the coins, shaving down the other, and inserting it in the other coin. If it is all one type of metal, then it may be a true mule, but pictures would definately help.

It's not a mule or any other kind of error. A cent was resized, had one face ground off and was affixed to a dime that had one face ground off.

Yes. If it was a mule it would be solid silver or solid copper. If it's two metals it's a novelty item.

Even if it was a single metal, its authenticity would have to be verified, as they are titanic rarities.

Yes, that's what he is saying. A trick, novelty, or Magicians coin. It is not an error coin.

Yes, it is only a trick coin as what you describe is impossible. A mule is an error that is struck with two dies from different denominations on a single composition planchet(silver or copper) but you cannot have both metals on one coin. Take a look at this post for an example of a Lincoln Memorial cent/Roosevelt dime trick coin- https://goccf.com/t/83906
Rest in Peace

If you compare your item to a regular coin, it it probably slightly smaller in diameter than a cent. The rest of the trick is a hollowed out cent (like a pie pan with straight up and down sides) that the dime side slips into, and "presto", the dime disappears and there's only a cent left.

Oddly enough, in about 100 wheat cents we bought the other day, there were two of those outer shells.
