I'm guessing that there's less than 20 surviving examples of 1884 Obv.1 in EF+...maybe even less than 10?  From the little I know, Rob has an MS62, and someone else has another MS62.  Edited by canadian-varieties

I have a 62 lustrous brown. It was in an ICCS holder, but I crossed it into a 62 brown PCGS holder. I know of three other mint state coins; a 62 trace red and two 60 browns, all in ICCS holders. I expect a couple more mint state coins to show up over time.

I can honestly say that I cannot even tell the difference between all of those heads! I have an 1884 in VF and another up for sale and they all look the same to me.

Easy on this one. Look at the long bottom serif on the N in REGINA. If it is long like this one is, then it is the valuable C1 coin. If the serif on the N in REGINA is short like the N in CANADA then it is the common C2 coin.

ICCS was tough on me  Just came back MS-60, Trace Red. The seller's photos, that you see above, were taken with pretty intense light, the coin is darker in hand, and the toning in areas is quite heavy, almost like an oxidized coating in places. I am sure that impacted the grade, because the surfaces are typical of a MS-62. Not sure if it would cross with PCGS - and for now, it does not have to... Still, it will probably be a very, very long time, before I encounter another mint state 1884 Obverse 1 in the wild.... Now I can sell my VF-30, and use that to buy another coin...  ...look for it on my ebay store soon...
