Looks like the real deal to me. But I'm open to the idea that it might just have been altered outside of the mint.

With these pictures, it looks as if the coin has been electroplated. It also looks to be a bit smaller in diameter, as if some metal has been machined off the edge, revealing the original copper core.

The smaller diameter is consistent with a cent struck on a dime planchet. If it had been plated and milled down, it would mostly show a zinc core.

I have always been fascinated with old coins although I'm not a serious collector...I knew today when I say this penny there was something special about it and decided to change it out and keep it..I often do that with silver coins...I want to thank each of you for helping me..

From the pics, penny struck on dime planchet. Again, send this puppy in for grading and authentication.

Angelas,

People are saying send it in, but do you know what they are talking about? If not we can explain what you need to do. In short there are companies that grade and authenticate coins. You need that done with such an unusual find if you want top dollar for it.
Rest in Peace

Here's a fake cent on dime blank that sold for almost $200.

Wow, who on earth would part with that much money and not know enough to know what they were buying was fake....I mean sheesh...when was the last time you saw an all copper dime planchet? May there be a sucker everyday that exceeds our expectatupions of just how poor our human genepool can be. Seems like everyday someone on CCF posts an obvious fake coin of some sort on ebay that even the untrained eye would pick out as fake yet sells for signifcant money. BTW this is in reference to the above response and not the main posting...lol

not only that, but you'll want to be 100% sure of what you've got. just because something looks like a diamond doesn't mean it is.

i saw that ebay listing as well. it's pretty upsetting how much junk people are getting ripped off on. I'm pretty sure I can dig up some Loch Ness monster skin, or Bigfoot fur to sell...maybe retire before I hit 40.

Size is right, color is right, weight is right, shows the copper core on the edge, everything I see and am hearing tells me this is a genuine cent struck on a dime planchet.
