Here's another odd nickel... I was again thinking PMD, but it's common to see a loss of detail in this area due to weakish strike - could this just be an extremely weak strike?
This nickel was struck on an abnormally hard planchet. This is the fourth example I've seen bearing the date 1983-P. Several different die pairs are involved.
Ooooh, cool, sounds like a keeper. I double checked the weight on this one too, to be sure it wasn't defaced, and it does weigh in right on the nose 5.00 g within 1/100th of a gram.
