This was another of the small group of coins I was thinking of getting slabbed. would it be worth it? I'm only slabbing a few of my higher replacement value pieces for insurance purposes, not for sale. a friend of mine recently lost a lifetime's collection in a burglary and the insurance company is fighting over bullion value vs numismatic replacement value since none of the coins were singled out (slabbed) to prove value. it would be like losing a 1916 SLQ and only receiving reimbursement for "silver quarter"...that would suck.

this is my 1902S Morgan. i'd hate to lose it and receive "silver dollar" reimbursement.

If you'd like to to chime in with opinions on grade and approximate value, that'd be much appreciated!

I think it is probably a VG-10, maybe a F-12.

I'd agree with VG-10.

The rim is full. The cotton balls and leaves are worn but dont merge, the hair is mostly worn but still has details and the hairline is pretty much there. The eagle is worn but I can see some detail on the neck and wings, I want to say F but I will go VG10.

would this even be worth slabbing? I don't feel as though there'd be much room to recoup replacement value in the event of loss once I get through paying all the TPG fees compared to base Morgan dollar value...

I wouldn't slab it. And depending what state you are in you can get a rider on your home policy to cover collectibles and it's typically inexpensive. Give a list of your coins to your agent and their approximate grade and value. Photo documentation would also be good. This is what I recommend for my customers (I'm and insurance guy. Some companies will let you purchase a blanket coverage for up to 50k as long as you have no single item worth more than 5k without an appraisal.
