This is a coin I picked up with the Constantine I Follis. It's around 23mm in diameter, and struck in Thessalonica? The coin has some porosity and a weak rev strike--was $25 too much?

I just shot this pick with one of the IKEA Jansjø LED lamps.

Great picture. Even with the weak struke the coin has very nice strong details. If the other coin is as nice as this, you did OK for $25.

Great Photography. I wish I could do that.

I think your coin is in excellent condition and well worth the price you paid. If you don't already know, I think your coin is RIC VI 59

Wow...thanks for all the great info JW! I'm slowly learning the mints, and further documentation would help me..I'll look into that. As for the photos, I cannot say enough about these Canon P/S and their macro capabilities. Mine is the SD790IS...it cost all of $140.

BTW, the mintmark on your coin is dot TS dot Gamma dot which is Thessalonica. In most mintmarks there are no "dots", but they are significant when used and is part of the attribution. Its a very nice coin as I said before.

What program do you use for your images? I use Picassa, but it seems that my pictures are sub par.

I also do some post-processing in photoshop, to knock out the coin images against a black bkg, to control highlights and get the color balance accurate to the coin.
