SPP-Ottawa Moderator Canada 10458 Posts	Posted 10/18/2011 4:21 pm Not brass. The known 1859 brass coins have a 'soft' strike. That is a well-cleaned coin. From my experience, and I do have access to a XRF machine at work, almost every coin that 'looks brassy' is not a brass coin.
