I went to my dump bank to deposit a couple bags of coins, nickels and cents. As the teller came back to his window, he had to retrieve my bags from a side door, I saw him put a couple of short fat cwrs into his drawer. After completing my deposit I asked if had any halves. He said no. I was confused. I thought maybe he was keeping the halves for himself. He offered me dollars, and then it dawned on me, he had two rolls of ikes, not halves. I bought what he had. Turned out to be 41 ikes. Got em home, and nothing interesting to be found, but I love ikes and picking them up for face is always a nice treat.

Nice. I know some tellers who say they want to keep coins for themselves. All I got to say is now I know why they have their protective glass. It isn't for robbers its for derenged coin collectors!

Nice pick up! I havent seen any Ike's for a very long time around here. Kennedy's seem to be plentiful though as I still see them in change tills at the supermarket.

Eisenhower Dollar. Ike was President Eisenhower's nickname.

But Eisenhowers aren't that rare and aren't worth much above face value are they?

Jam, correct on both for the most part. Not rare, but relatively unseen in circulation. Value really only makes a difference when referring to BU examples and of course the silver clads and the NIFC 73 issue. Always fun to be able to pick up for face, in my opinion.

Quote: But Eisenhowers aren't that rare and aren't worth much above face value are they? That does not matter to me. The value of an Eisenhower dollar is priceless.

Im just saying to find them at all...regardless of where...face value is nice. Yes, I would expect any coin or currency that is obtained from a bank to be got at face value, but when is the last time you found ikes at any bank? I worked at a bank back in college for about 3 years, and only saw ikes come in twice.

Well the actual answer to that question is both yes and no. Eisenhower's in normal condition xf to au are available by the ton in every coin shop at a little above face. Normally $1.25 a piece but in the last couple of years I have noticed that price slowly rising.
Eisenhower's in the higher grades are quite difficult to find and can get quite expensive. And then there are the varieties. I do not even know where to begin with those. The Eisenhower Dollar Series has more major varieties than any series I ever encountered. Especially for such a short series. 1971-1978.
