This has certainly sparked my imagination. It has a 5 & an 8 on it's face from what I can see.
I found this metal detecting about 4' down due to sand erosion.

ANy ideas or leads, certainly let me know.

That was what I was thinking, too.

But I do not think it is a salt water corroded Spanish cob. My guess is that it is part of a bullion bar.

Thanks guys for your opinions & insight! Wish I had more of it to really tell or wish it was in better condition. I'm going back on Monday to see if I can find anything else. This one's going in my box of finds! Thanks so much.

If your on the Outer Banks it could be Spanish, if down around Wilmington, could be Civil War era or Spanish. I was on Topsail today fishing, took the detector along just in case. Wish now that I had broke it out and done me some sand fishing, would have had better luck for sure.
