OK this may be quite normal so please don't laugh at me! But I haven't seen it before. There a 4 dots on the Obv rim of this $2 coin. At first I thought the lines off the edge had gone over but when I looked closer they don't line up. It's at about 7 o'clock (under the arm). Any thoughts?

Thanks Gecko. Have you ever seen anything like that before?

Never seen anything like it mate, some sharp object getting pushed into it? My guess is PMD.

I'm not sure what causes it, but it's reasonably common, but definitely not PMD!

Concerned, take NancyC's word over mine :) Keep it though.

Oh Yes! By all means keep it! We have to find out what causes it though and what to call them. When I can start scanning coins again, I'll hunt some of mine out and see if I can put up some images. I think they might be mostly 1999, but not certain.

Ahhh so there may be more out their in the wild for me to find. <insert cute/evil laugh>. It would be great to figure out what it is, esp if it is something that happened during minting. Thanks guys I'll put it in a special place so we look into it again later

I have also seen quite a few of these coins with the same markings. It's still an error in my mind so I would keep it :)

Recently I found a great $2 coin. It was in good condition but it was starting to crack apart. I sat it on the kitchen table to look at when I got home from work, but by that time my girlfriend had seen a random coin laying around and accidently spent it. So Melb people keep an eye on the $2 coins as you may find it! next time it goes straight into a 2x2....

Oh don't you hate that Gecko! I am finding it hard to spend any coins at all, just incase! Infact I had to accept the kindness of a stranger to pay my parking because I had put all my coins away & left my wallet empty! Coin madness :)

My work colleague knows I collect coins and is actually looking at coins for me. He's obviously sick. LOL However, yesterday he gave me a $2 coin with most of the obverse legend missing. Great strikethrough. I think it might be 2009, but need to look at thriough a loupe. He looked at it because it was 'shiny'. He was looking for the rabbit ears that I had told him about previously. Wrong coin, but great find!

This would have something to do with the milling of the side of the coin.
