Everytime I hear " Jean Chrietien " mentioned I laugh and think of my father who called him "Jean Cretin"

Well, perhaps Geddy Lee (the lead singer from one of Canada's successful Juno bands, "Rush") could be on the five dollar bill? ... or perhaps Mike Weir (Masters golf champion) and/or Steve Nash (NBA MVP) ... man, I personally would cast my vote for either of those two dudes before I cast my vote for "any" political representative! (but hey, that's because I'm not all that political) ...

I'm just sayin' ...

=> ummmm yah, it's probably best if we keep the Royals on our coins (otherwise, it could get ugly)

the role of the monarch is to be a focus for national unty, like the flag, the national anthem, and other institutions and symbols.
a hereditary monarchy puts the monarch outside the political process. For nearly 60 years, we have been blessed with a Queen that stays out of politics. I'm not aware of KG6 crossing any lines, but he did his best to maintain national purpose during WW2. Before that, in WW1 and in the 1930s, Australia had a few constitutional difficulties, and KG5 demonstrated great wisdom.

On the other hand, elections, and similar, are political processes, and the winner can hardly be said to be a force for national unity.

The states use Pocahontas on their dollar. We could use a fictional cartoon character too. It doesn't have to be a lousy politician.

Am I the only one who thinks that "nearing the big 90 soon" or "creeping up on the 90 mark" are inaccurate descriptions for a person who is only 85?

Sacagawea? Mmmm.... No that sounds made up. I'm positive it's Pocahontas she was in that movie with John smith. I've never seen this Sacagawea you speak of in a Disney movie. And Disney is where I get all of my accurate historical information.

In my opinion the last nice image of the queen on coinage was in 1964, Also in 1965 Canada lost its real flag, If you want to see a really lousy image of royalty on coinage I found a 2000 Netherlands 1 cent coin roll hunting where the queen looks like Huckleberry Hound in drag

Be happy to only find them when you are role hunting. I find them every day in my change. Well the design is better then the head on the guilders befor 2002.

While I am a proud supporter of the Monarchy, I believe that one should consider who is on the currency from a sense of continuity. Having HRH ER on the coins and the most popular note is fine by me. It portrays a sense of history, both for Canada and the rest of the former empire, be they Constitutional Monarchies or Republics.

As we all know, we use "famous" or "infamous" (depending on your political leanings)Prime Ministers on all other notes except the $20 and the $1000. This along with the other scenes on the notes helps establish our individual identity. Same could be said for the new loonies and toonie with the Parks Canada designs.

I would be most interested to hear from the RCM rep who is on here on their take on this? Also, does the RCM and have to have the governments approval when they change only the one side of the coin, again, using the loonie and toonie as examples?

Just my 2 cents!

I love having Queen Elizabeth's face on our money => her face has been on the back of our cash since before I was born (it is going to be very strange/sad, if and when she ever passes away) ...

Man, there have been a lot of sweet Elizabeth Portraits over the years, eh? (here are a couple of my favorites)

Who-

Who-

Hmmm? ... I'm not sure why the photos didn't upload "normally"?
