Can we assume the Philadelphia Mint, and that the marks, only, were affixed at the Denver Mint, from whence the coins were then distributed? Or, do we blame this, for the most part, crappy workmanship, on the Denver Mint, alone? Sorry, gang, I'm thinking, again, and there's nothing anybody can do about it. Thanks.

Until about 1997 ALL of the dies were made in Philadelphia. Philadelphia still makes all the master hubs but in 1997 Denver opened its own die shop to make it's own Master dies, Working hubs and working dies. Philadelphia still makes all the dies for San Francisco and West Point.

Conder101, I wonder, could everything have been done at Philadelphia, then, including the marks? What's the most plausible to you? I'd think (guess, really), Denver did the marks, Philadelphia did the hubs and dies (both master and all working came out of Philadelphia, not Denver).

No, mint marks were also applied to the dies at Philadelphia.
