I recently won an auction of 2 pounds of world coins, because it included several coins I wanted for my collection. Most I can identify, but I can't identify fifteen of them. I am breaking them up into three groups of five coins for each thread. I am asking for other members to help identify the country and year. If you need closer/different pictures of a coin, please let me know. Thanks for any help.

Coin 1: Thailand (I don't have my books with me so I do not know the denomination)
Coin 2: Taiwan- 1 Yuan (Probably 1960s)
Coin 3: Japan- 10 Yen (This type has been made from the 1950s to the present)
Coin 4: Japan- 10 Yen
Coin 5- Japan - 50 Yen (Probably 1950s or 1960s)

Sorry that I cannot provide concrete dates, but I am not near my Krause catalogs at present.

You correctly identified those, and I was able to use an online database of images to narrow it down more.
1 - Thailand 1 baht (1982-1985)
2 - Taiwan 1 yuan (1960-1980)
3 - Japan 10 yen 1959-1988 smooth edge
4 - Japan 10 yen 1951-1958 reeded edge
5 - Japan 50 yen 1955-1958

Since those went quick, I will include the last 10 coins in the next thread.

The taiwanese and thai coins I always have to consult the catalog to id individual years. The Japanese coins I have enough practice that I can ID ~95% of them. If you want to narrow down your Japanese coins to the year, it is not hard to read the Japanese characters. You can check out this guide and do the math. Others might just tell you, but I'd rather teach you to fish. Post back if you come up with definitive years or need help.
