Hello Everyone: I have been coin detecting for some time but recently started looking for error coins. Found the attached and want to see what you think - back is full of Chad I beleive (1958D Wheat Back). Any idea of what a coin like this could be worth. Looking forward to learning about these coins - thanks for your help.

Hi. I'm not sure what you mean by coin detecting -- metal detecting? Did you find this in the ground?

I ask because I am not sure that you have an error coin, just a damaged coin that seems to have once been glued to something.

I don't think it would be worth very much because of the corrosion - except if you found it, then it could have some personal value to you.

Hang on and wait for the experts to give their opinions.

Unfortunately, you coin is covered with glue. It would be worth the same as any other common Wheat cent, 3-5 cents each in a bulk lot.

Thanks for the info. Was able to remove some of the glue - this may be harder then
I think but I'm going to give it my best - never know what you will find. Purchasing
rolls from the bank tomorrow and going through all existing coins.

Good luck searching, it becomes addicting. Everyone has there own list of what to search for but this thread covers all of the major ones.

ronbo -- read the threads on coin cleaning before you try to remove that glue. You could probably get the glue off with pure acetone (available at hardware store and do not use nail polish remover which contains oils)but picking at it could damage the coin.

I'm very new to this interesting error coin business too, and have embarrassed myself a few times here and on ebay by listing and asking about what turned out to be road rash, fire damage, hammered, etc.

One response I got here (from biokemist6)is now stuck forever in my mind and saved me untold hours and lots of grief was this....

"attempting to hypothesize about random coin damage is a fool's errand"

Forever grateful for that advice.
