Hi Everyone, I am going to send a couple coins for grading at ICCS. On their submission paperwork they mention that if I want the coins Charlton variety designated then there is an additional $6 surcharge per coin.
Does this mean if I don't pay the additional 6 bucks they won't actually indicate the variety? What if I am not aware it actually is a variety? Am I missing something here?

Thanks

On another note, I was surprised to see in JandM's ICCS catalogue a 1949 a to denticle for $45 bucks in MS-63 RB. I ordered it and they gave it to me. Maybe I am missing something but I thought this was a $200+ coin? Happy with it regardless...

Cheers

I have seen some inconsistency on the fees charged by ICCS. I have had varieties attributed (e.g., large cent repunched digits) without charge. Same for say a small cent 1948 to or between denticle. I know they don't like dealing with some varieties that are tricky to pin down...like the 1929 high 9. They may have the fee in place for varieties that are difficult.

On the 1949, I would say you got a good price. I think $200 would be high though. A PCGS MS64 Red traded on ebay a month or two ago for around $200.

I saw that cent at JandM as well, but I have bought too much lately. Good one!

You got that deal because the coin is designated Red-Brown. That $200 value you are quoting would be for a high eye appeal Red coin, in my opinion.
