Hi, This Morgan looks a little funny to me, but I am still very green. What do you guys think?

Thanks a lot

did you buy it from a local dealer or online, it should weigh just under 27(26.73) grams and 38.1mm for an uncirculated example and if you dont have some calipers and a scale the best thing to do is take it to a local dealer and have him look at it.

I don't see anything obviously amiss with the coin. What features cause you doubt?

I dont really see anything wrong with the coin it looks like your average circulated morgan, nice coin I see your taking the dive and going after the larger coins now.

Looks genuine to me ... 1878 7TF with 79 reverse. In fact it looks to be a VAM 220 (score!). Anyway to get a larger picture of the P and are of Pluribus on the obverse?

Whew..thanks all.

Here is close-up pic. Yes, I had to finally settle on just two types..so, it's Morgans and errors.

Got this in a lot of 5. 1878P,79S,80O,81P & 82O.

This 78 looked grainy to me, so worried.

I really appreciate you people. Thanks

yours looks like the 1878 with the 1879 reverse and I see nothing that would make me think it is not authentic

allcoinsnewbie,

Still not close enough to be sure. Why not check it out for yourself. Go to VamWorld.com, Morgan VAMS by date, 1878-P and click on the listing for VAM 220. There are nice pictures there of all the diagnosics. The key one is a tripled leg of the 'R' in Pluribus.
