My grandson has a 1866-s half dollar with a blob in the center. A dealer told him that the coin was damaged and only good for a filler for the date. The reverse has clash marks that I've seen on a variety of coin images from Heritage and ebay. The obverse has the blob obscuring most of Liberty's torso. The rest of the image is VF 35-45. Note also, what appears to be a second hand holding the staff. I believe that this blob is either from a brockage (there are stripes which appear to be tail feathers) or some damage to the die or just grease on the die. I have not been able to find this damage on the limited number of Seated Liberty halves that I've seen.

First of all to the sight. By looking at the photos you have displayed if it is genuine it is a rare mintage 1866 s no motto half dollar. I'm not sure of the "blob" mentioned, it just looks like uneven wear, and the photos seem to show a cleaning. Still if it is real it could be valued in the several hundred dollar range due it it's rarity.

I think the coin is genuine, but it has been used for jewelry at some time and has had a mounting removed from the obverse. They did a good job removing the solder from Liberty, but they have left a good sized blob of it filling the area between Liberty's left arm and upper torso. If it wasn't for the damage it would probably have graded in the XF-45 range, but with the damage I would net grade it somewhere in the Good to VG range. A filler but a pretty nice filler.
